BASEDOW Over 100 years of tradition in every bottle
German immigrant Johannes Basedow established the Basedow Winery in the heart of the Barossa Valley in Southern Australia in 1896. The winery was thrown into a series of tragedies soon after. Johannes' wife died from being thrown out of a carriage when her horse bolted whilst leaving the vineyard. A year later, a local drunkard fell into a vat of fermenting red wine and drowned. Johannes was so distressed that he ordered all of the wine to be poured down the creek, plunging Johannes into financial difficulties. He died a year later from what many believe to be a broken heart and a broken wallet. This tragic beginning has not hampered the beauty & quality of Basedow wines, but has added to the soul and the spirit of the wine.
